The Institute of Separation Science and Technology at the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften 2025 in Erlangen
The Institute of Separation Science and Technology presented its research at the Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften, which took place on October 25, 2025 in Erlangen. Dr. Detlef Freitag, Marzieh Khoobyari, Dr. Nicole Kragt, Lukas Sandner, Dr. Carola Vorndran and Pia Weiner explained to the public how adsorption and porous materials can be used to cool drinks, generate heat and store or separate gases as well as the principle of chromatographic separation processes. The generation of heat due to adsorption was demonstrated with the help of an experiment in which water was brought in contact to zeolite 5A. The chromatographic principle was explained using the separation of color pigments on filter paper as simple example, which was very popular especially for children.
