Major contributions at FEZA 2026 – 10th Conference of the Federation of the European Zeolite Association

Prof. Matthias Thommes and Andreas Schuss recently participated in the FEZA (Federation of European Zeolite Associations) Conference 2026 held in the historic city of Naples, Italy from 28 June to 2 July 2026.

FEZA is among the worldwide most important conferences in the area of nanoporous materials and also this time in Naples brought together leading experts and researchers from across the globe to discuss the latest advancements in porous materials. This year´s theme was “Zeolites and porous materials for sustainability strategies” – and featured 5 plenary lectures, 5 keynotes, 90 oral and over 50 short oral presentations complemented by 2 poster session.

The Thommes group made a significant impact at this year’s conference with two major highlights:

Plenary Lecture by Prof. Dr. Matthias Thommes: Prof. Thommes had the great  honor of deliver one the five plenary lectures.  His lecture focused on: “Effect of Confinement on the Adsorption, Phase and Wetting Behaviour of Fluids: Recent Progress in the Pore Network and Surface Characterization of Nanoporous Materials”

Best Poster Award for Andreas Schuss: We are thrilled to congratulate Andreas Schuss was for the  2nd place in the Best Poster Award competition with his poster on “A non-toxic alternative to mercury in liquid intrusion porosimetry: systematic study of intrusion/extrusion behavior of a gallium-based liquid metal (eGaInSn) into meso- and microporous silica, alumina and carbon materials” (authors: Andreas Schuss, Jakob Söllner, Matthias Thommes).

Remarkably, this marks the second time, after the 12th International Symposium on the Characterization of Porous Solids (COPS XII) that this contribution, showing a novel concept for macropore analysis utilizing a gallium-based liquid metal (eGaInSn) has been honored with a prize for the best poster presentation.
