Prof. Thommes gave an invited lecture on recent advances in the physical adsorption characterization of nanoporous materials with a focus on assessing their hydrophilicty/hydrophobicity at the 1st International Symposium on Smart Materials for Energy effiecient Built Environmental Control.

From May 18-23, 2025 the 15th Fundamentals of Adsorption (FOA 15) conference took place in Porto, Portugal. The Adsorption and Nanoporous Materials Characterization group had a major presence and significant contributions at this meeting.

Prof. Matthias Thommes, Head of Institute of Separation Science and Technology (Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg) has been distinguished for his outstanding contributions to the fundamentals of adsorption and the characterization of porous materials by the Separation Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). The Plaque of Honor was awarded to him during a dedicated Honorary Session at the AIChE Annual Meeting 2024 on October 28th in San Diego, California, USA.
